HEDGE TRIMMING & TOPIARY

 

From simple hedge cutting & trimming to full-scale ornamental and formative shaping through to topiary forms, AV gardening services will reshape and restore any hedge, making your garden look tidy, structured and light. There are many small tree species that are suitable to be cut and trimmed to produce hedging, but they all need to be treated and cut at different times and intervals depending on their type. Many hedges if left and not trimmed regularly and can soon become too large in structure and ‘woody’ for their purpose as hedging, as a result damaging and killing other nearby plant specimens and lawns, blocking out light and reducing overall garden space.

 

Ultimately, if they left for too long, most hedging species will revert back to their original form, which in some cases can mean an unstructured hedge of anything up to ten metres or above in height and often similar width.

 

Whilst we are happy to undertake one-off hedge trims, we do recommend regular hedge trimming to maintain the best quality of hedging for your garden. Ultimately this will be the most cost-effective means to manage your hedges as each trim will be a lighter piece of work than a major cut every one or two years. This approach will also ensure the quick removal of any dead or diseased areas to allow for regrowth and consistent hedge shape. We will schedule our visits as often as you need to keep your hedge in good condition throughout the year, however, whilst we recommend trimming hedges and bushes at least once a year, but for rapid growers such as beech, privet and leylandii we would suggest at least two trims per annum.
